living off the land…

well, maybe not completely.  but, at least i am on my way!  there are a couple of things that i did WRONG when i planted my garden this year.  and, then i added what i learned… i planted WAY too many tomato plants.  i cannot get to all of them because they have grown over each other.  which means i also cannot stake them….which means some of them rot on the ground.  sad story i know.  the lesson i learned is to pay attention to the instructions about how far... Read More

i don’t even have kids and there aren’t enough hours in my day!!!  so, the posts are fewer than i would like.  i am sorry about that.  i hope you will all stick with me as the new job settles in and i am able to get back to my old posting ways! for the next couple of posts, i am going to update y’all on my garden.  it has been SO MUCH FUN!!!!  the veggies are plentiful, and exquisite to eat.  however, the veggies will come next.  the item in my garden... Read More

summer travel…blowing rock, north carolina…

you may have read my post from last week about my favorite place to rest…blowing rock, north carolina.  it is a haven for me nestled in the blue ridge mountains.  some of it rests in time and does not change.  the parts that do tend to stay pretty close to the original….that is acceptable to me.  blowing rock sits up the mountain about 25 minutes from boone, north carolina.  oddly, it is south of boone, but up a mountain.  as you drive the blue ridge parkway... Read More

grown up decisions…

i bought a new car…well, not new…but new to me.   due to my new job, i don’t need the mini cooper anymore.  i got it for the gass mileage as i had a 45 mile commute each way for work.  when i bought the mini, i decided i would get something fun and cute…and because i thought, maybe, i could act like charlize theron.  well, then i realized the car payments stink.  here comes the grown up decisions part… i bought a jeep.  an older one that is... Read More

kale cakes…

i realize that few of us look at kale and think, “i should make a cake out of this….”  but somebody did!  and, i am grateful for their creativity. they are like the kale version of potato pancakes...also wonderful!!! a couple of weeks ago, my friends at SWEET 16TH bakery shared this recipe with me.  it is mary’s father’s recipe.  i have never met the man, but if he had a fan club, i would be in it!  thank you so much, mary’s dad, for sharing... Read More

introducing effie…

it is OFFICIAL y’all.  i now have two dogs!!!  you all remember bella, i am sure!  well, bella now has a sister.  i found her through EAST CAN.  (go and check them out…they need good owners to come and scoop up their adorable adoptees…) she is as sweet as bella is.  she is currently a little needy, but who wouldn’t be in the new environment.  she loves to be petted and barks at anyone who walks near the house.  between bella, who howls, and effie,... Read More

dear alexander…

when i was a child, i read the book about your terrible, horrible, no good very bad day… last week, i felt like i was living the week version of that book.  from monday to friday, it was HORRIBLE.  not like war torn country horrible, but normal person horrible.  at the end of the horrible week, when i thought it couldn’t get any more crazy or frustrating…i got into my car at 7:15 a.m. on Friday morning.  i turned the key….NOTHING happened.  dead as... Read More
